Changing Your Lifestyle
Once we decide to make a change to our lifestyle the hardest part is quite often starting it. We can spend hours and hours planning it but never actually start anything – Why is that?
Sometimes we set ourselves up to fail without even realizing. Our goals are so unrealistic that nobody would be able to achieve them.
It doesn’t have to be all or nothing, starting off slowly can be the best way to be successful.
The most important thing is to just start!
When changing your diet you don’t need to give everything up. Why not start with looking at your portion sizes. How much are you really eating?
This works 2 ways – are you over eating or are you eating enough!
Swapping your normal large size dinner plate to a smaller side plate will help with your portion control. You can even buy what is called a “healthy plate” which shows you how you should fill it up with a mixture of proteins, vegies and carbs.
Food swapping is a great way to still enjoy some of your regular treats – just in a much healthier way.
Like fish and chips – instead of having fried fish swap it for a steamed or grilled. Then the chips can be oven baked or even better you can have sweet potato oven baked chips.
Ensure you are eating regular small meals throughout the day. This will stop you from eating that really big meal at the end of the day as you haven’t had anything at all during the day and are completely starving. You also make better choices when you are not starving hungry.
When starting an exercise plan, don’t overestimate the amount of spare time you have to exercise otherwise you won’t do any at all.
Start by going for a walk each day and timing yourself so you can see your improvements each week.
You can also exercise at home or join a local boot camp so that you have other people around you to encourage you.
Just remember it doesn’t have to be all or nothing!! Now go and get started!!
