Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach
Where: Start and finish at Bondi Beach SLSC.
Distance: Approximately 4kms (return trip).
Surface: Fully paved path.
Toilets: Yes.
Water Fountains: Yes.
Comments: Magnificent scenery to keep your mind active, lots of stair climbs to get the heart pumping and always lots of other walkers around.
This can easily be extended to a 10km walk by continuing all the way to Coogee Beach before turning back.
Royal Botanic Gardens - Sydney
Where: Start and finish at Opera House Gate.
Distance: Approximately 4kms (round trip).
Surface: Fully paved path.
Toilets: Not on surrounding path route.
Water Fountains: Not on surrounding path.
Comments: Magnificent views of the Harbour Bridge, Kirribilli and Woolloomooloo Bay, and always lots of other walkers and sight-seers around.
This walk can easily be extended by a further couple of kilometres by also walking around The Domain which adjoins the Botanic Gardens.
Grand Drive - Centennial Park
Where: Start & finish at Parklands Restaurant.
Distance: Approximately 4kms (round trip).
Surface: Fully paved path.
Toilets: Yes.
Water Fountains: Yes.
Comments: Choose between a walking path or jogging track around Grand Drive. Very popular spot, for bike riders too. Bike hire is also available within the park near the Ferderation Pavilion.
One of the best things about this walk is the changing scenery along the route.
Cremorne Reserve Walk - Cremorne Point
Where: Start and Finish at Sirius Park Playgrd.
Distance: Approximately 5kms (return trip).
Surface: Fully paved path.
Toilets: Yes.
Water Fountains: No.
Comments: Follow the path around Cremorne point into Mosman Bay and on to Reid Park before turning and following the same path back.
This walk/jog has breathtaking views of the harbour, including the Opera House, City and Bridge. If you feel like a refreshing swim try the MacCallum pool which is on the path.
Iron Cove
Where: Start and finish at Rodd Point carpark.
Distance: Approximately 7kms (round trip).
Surface: Fully paved path.
Toilets: Yes (not on path).
Water Fountains: Yes.
Comments: This walk is just long enough to provide a challenging walk or jog and has a wonderful array of scenes and landscapes along the way. The only real downsides to this walk are where it comes close to the traffic (Dobroyd Pde and Iron Cove Bridge) and the lack of toilets and drinking water on route.
Queenscliff Beach to Shelly Beach - Manly
Where: Start and finish at Rock Baths.
Distance: Approximately 4kms (return trip).
Surface: Fully paved path.
Toilets: Yes.
Water Fountains: Yes.
Comments: Magnificent views across the Tasman Sea (particularly from the lookout atop Shelly beach park). Always plenty of people around including walkers and joggers. This walk can be extended easily by walking down Ashburner Street to the esplanade of Manly Cove, past the Manly Wharf and beyond.
Manly Wharf to Forty Baskets Beach - Manly
Where: Start and finish at the Manly Wharf.
Distance: Approximately 5kms (return trip).
Surface: Fully paved path.
Toilets: Yes.
Water Fountains: Yes.
Comments: Magnificent scenery and usually plenty of other people around to keep your mind active. This can easily be extended up to to a 20km walk by continuing all the way to The Spit. If you can make it a little further than 5km, the views atop Dobroyd Head are unbelievable and worth the walk themselves.
Parramatta Lake - Lake Parramatta Reserve
Where: Start and finish at the Park Entrance.
Distance: Choice of 1.5, 2.5 or 4.2km trails.
Surface: Mostly unpaved - often uneven.
Toilets: Yes (near entrance only).
Water Fountains: Yes (near entrance only).
Comments: If you enjoy the sights, sounds and smell of nature you'll love this walk. More akin to bushwalking this walk will have you negotiating your way through scrub and up and down hills. You'll need to visit this place more than once to get the best out of it. Free maps of the trails are available at the kiosk.
Whale Rock Circuit - Lane Cove National Park
Where: Start at Pennant Hills Park carpark.
Distance: Approximately 5kms (round trip).
Surface: Unpaved bush-track.
Toilets: Yes.
Water Fountains: Yes.
Comments: Part of the Lane Cove National Park, this walk can easily be increased by exploring the surrounding trails. If you enjoy the tranquility of the bush you'll love this walk. Because you can feel like you're in the middle of nowhere here, it's a good idea to take a friend until you get to know your way around.
